Heavy Duty Holidays!

Well, you know how it goes - Halloween is just around the corner, so it will be about a nanosecond before Christmas is here... So to make sure that you are ready, we have added a bunch of new holiday items to get you started, and we'll be writing about them in the coming weeks to make sure you've got the perfect gift for your favourite Caterpillar fan!

First things first, we've created a set of four cookie cutters that are based on the 797 Haul Truck, the D11 Track Type Tractor, the 980 Wheel Loader, and the 226 Skid Steer.  Each set comes packaged with a shortbread recipe from one our team members (she actually won a competition with it, so it is pretty good!), but we've also included a basic recipe here:
Taken from COOKS.COM

1 c. butter
1 c. sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
2 tsp. baking powder
3 c. flour

Beat butter and sugar until fluffy. Add the egg and vanilla. Combine flour and baking powder. Gradually add to butter mixture. Do not chill. Roll half the dough 1/8 inch thick. Dip cookie cutter in flour. Place shapes on ungreased baking sheet. Bake at 400 degrees for 6-7 minutes. Repeat with remaining dough.

Of course there is more than just cookies that can be made with these cutters - how about making some home-made TREE ORNAMENTS?  All it takes is a simple Basic Salt Dough Recipe that uses basic household ingredients like salt, flour, and water.  Bake 'em and paint 'em - then hang 'em on the tree - pretty simple!  Just remember to poke a hole in the top for your ribbon before you bake them... just saying.

If you make some cookies or ornaments, be sure to take a picture and enter into our "Show Us Your Gear" contest where you could win a $100 gift certificate!  You can see examples of other entries at http://www.facebook.com/Finning.HDG

Here to Work - CT660 Merchandise

When Caterpillar unveiled the new Cat Truck (CT) 660 at CONEXPO in Las Vegas, we immediately went to work to design some great merchandise to support it.

Obviously a truck will need a standard issue "Truckers Hat" with the mesh back, so that was one of the first things that rolled off the line.  But what makes the R3105 Caterpillar CT660 Mesh Trucker Cap special?  Take a close look at the front and you'll notice the honeycomb pattern of the CT660 grille reworked onto the hat. While the R3102 Caterpillar CT660 Peak Cap doesn't have a mesh back, it shares a similar feature as the R3105: both have silver thread embroidery to represent the Cat badge on the truck's grille, which on the real truck is made of T304 grade Stainless Steel.

60" wide by 45" tall
Probably one of our most remarkable new pieces is the CT4011 Fleece Caterpillar Blanket, which has a stunning full-colour image of the CT660 working at night, looking like the tough truck that it is.  This blanket is full-sized (measures 60" wide by 45" tall) and soft enough to be used in the crib of any future operator.

19" Long
Of course, it is hard not to notice that the image on the fleece blanket makes it look like the CT660 is working in a bit of a rough neigbourhood, which is why we developed the CT4003 Wooden Tire Thumper.  Made of a durable solid wood with a ridged handle, steel shaft core, and a secure leather strap, this item is a fast and easy way to check tire pressure... but PLEASE, as tempting as it may be, use only as a tire thumper!  Of course, the best way to safely & accurately check tire pressure is by using good quality gauge properly.

First CT660 Delivered
If you want to learn more about this great truck, visit http://www.cat.com/truck/CT660 for some 360 degree tours of the interior cab, the exterior, etc.  There are also some cool videos and advice for truckers on http://mycattruck.com.

We're going to keep adding more CT660 merchandise to our Heavy Duty Gear line, so if you have any suggestions we would love to hear 'em!  Email us at heavydutygear@finning.ca.

21 jackets for winter!

R6193 Apex Winter Jacket
So as much as we all hate to admit it, winter is definitely coming - there is not much to do except deal with it!  To make it easier for, we decided to supply you the perfect jacket for a "typical Canadian winter"... and then quickly realized there is no such thing, as the regions vary so much in the this great country of ours.  So if you live somewhere COLD, we just added the Apex  winter jacket which is a great jacket: waterproof (5,000 mm rating), very warm, storm flaps, metal hardware, 2-way zippers.  In short, a versatile coat that will keep you warm all winter long - even in January in Edmonton.
Eversum

But what if you live in Fort Mac?  Well, we all agree that it is REALLY COLD in Fort McMurray in the winter, so at that point you should consider the Eversum Parka which is available in Men's (black) or Ladies (White) - and both of which can be customized with a corporate logo beside Cat.  The Eversum has a detachable hood with a faux-fur lining to keep you warm.  Don't worry if you're scared of Pamela Anderson not inviting you over for the holidays because you were caught wearing fur - "faux" is just our fancy way of saying fake!
CX2 Soft Shell Jacket

Of course, if you live in Victoria, which technically is NOT-SO-COLD-BUT-REALLY-WET, wearing one of those two great Caterpillar jackets would be like walking around in an oven.  We have a great variety of soft-shell jackets, including the CX2 which is our most popular by far.  Why so popular?  Probably because it is waterproof, windproof, has strong zippers, it is not too long in the back which makes it convenient for getting out of trucks & cars - oh, and it comes in three styles: Youth, Ladies, and Men's.

So we can probably all agree that there is no such thing as a "typical Canadian winter" - and accordingly we have 21 jackets which means we have the right jacket to get you dressed in proper Caterpillar style!

Watch this site for more great jackets coming soon.
