We are taking some time today to discuss a very interesting
era in Caterpillar history, the Block C vintage era! From 1967 until 1988
Caterpillar was not only recognized by a very different branding logo but they
were directly involved with many big projects throughout Canada and the
world. 
In 1967 Canada was celebrating its 100th birthday
and Caterpillar was represented in the grand celebration of “Expo 67” World’s
Fair by helping to construct and prepare the site in Montreal where it was
being held. Later in the same year, thirty Cat® machines were brought in to create
the Duncan Dam in British Columbia. During this period many dams and canals
would be built in Canada and abroad using Caterpillar machines. Some of these projects, such as the Welland
Canal in Ontario, were essential to transportation at that time.
During the 1970’s, Caterpillar continued to expand and many
of its machines were used for power-projects such as hydro dams and oil sands.
In Quebec, the James Bay power project was built using Caterpillar machines.
According to records available, up to 80% of the machines on the site were made
by Cat®.
